Dr. Waylon Ward is the Executive Director of Mercy Matters, a Christian coaching and counseling ministry. He is an author, teacher and counselor with over forty years of experience in Christian counseling. His compassionate spirit and gentle manner has enabled him to minister spiritually and relationally to hundreds of individuals and couples.
As a former college football player and as a man who has struggled with his own anger and sense of domesticated masculine identity, he has helped hundreds of men with their personal and business relationships. Waylon speaks to men’s conferences and leads several men’s groups every week. He works with couples and families focusing on healthy marriage and family relationships. He presents seminars in local churches on Christian counseling, marriage issues, fathering matters, anger, and sexual issues.
He is the best-selling author of The Bible in Counseling, Sex Matters, addressing men’s sexual issues and Who’s Your Daddy? which addresses the crisis in masculinity and fatherlessness in the US and around the globe. Other books include His Image, My Image which he wrote with Josh McDowell, M3: MEN MENTORING MEN and his latest book entitled Divorced Dads/ Loving Fathers will be released later this year.
Dr. Waylon Ward graduated from Texas A & M University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and History. He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Biblical Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary and a Master of Education Degree with an emphiasis on Marriage and Family counseling from Texas A & M Commerce. He also has been awarded a Doctorate in Theology (ThD) and a Doctor of Ministry (Dmin) in Counseling from Phoenix University of Theology.
After a ministry of six years with Campus Crusade for Christ, Waylon began Dallas Christian Counseling Services in 1975. It was the first distinctivley Christian counseling ministry in the Metroplex during the ten years Waylon was the Director.
Dr. Ward is the author of the newspaper columns "Dad's World" and "Dad's Coach" which have appeared in many small town newspapers. In addition he has written numerous articles in publications such as Moody Monthly, Kindred Spirit, Family Life Today and Marriage Magazine.
A popular speaker and seminar leader, Dr. Ward has spoken on college campuses and churches in fifteen states and he has conducted workshops and conferences throughout Texas. His main areas of emphasis include men's issues, relationship issues, father deprivation wounds, anger management, sexual issues and marriage and family issues.
